Description

A refreshing and healthy Apple Tuna Salad that combines the savory flavor of tuna with the crisp sweetness of apples, enhanced by crunchy celery, red onion, and a creamy Dijon mustard mayonnaise dressing. Perfect as a quick lunch or light dinner, this salad is easy to prepare with no cooking required and can be enjoyed on sandwich bread, lettuce wraps, or with crackers.

Ingredients

Scale

Salad Ingredients

  • 2 cans (5 ounces each) tuna in water, drained
  • 1 crisp apple (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji), diced
  • 1/4 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons red onion, minced
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts or pecans
  • Optional: fresh parsley for garnish

Dressing Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine Salad Ingredients: In a medium bowl, mix together the drained tuna, diced apple, chopped celery, minced red onion, and nuts if using, to create the base of the salad.
  2. Prepare Dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper until the dressing is smooth and well blended.
  3. Mix Salad and Dressing: Pour the dressing over the tuna mixture and gently fold everything together to evenly coat all ingredients without mashing the apple or tuna.
  4. Adjust Seasoning and Chill: Taste the salad and adjust salt and pepper if needed. For the best flavor, chill the salad in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before serving.
  5. Serve: Serve the apple tuna salad on sandwich bread, in lettuce wraps, or with your favorite crackers. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute Greek yogurt for some or all of the mayonnaise.
