Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Main Ingredient
- 1 1/2 cups peeled and diced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
Glaze
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare baking sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined and evenly distributed.
- Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter together until smooth and fully incorporated.
- Create the batter: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients bowl, stirring gently until just combined to avoid overmixing, which could make the fritters tough.
- Fold in apples: Carefully fold the peeled and diced apples into the batter, ensuring they are evenly distributed without breaking them apart.
- Scoop fritters: Using a spoon or ice cream scoop, drop about 1/4 cup of batter for each fritter onto the prepared baking sheet. Flatten each slightly with the back of the spoon to encourage even baking.
- Bake: Place the tray in the oven and bake for 14–17 minutes, or until the fritters turn golden brown and are set in the middle.
- Prepare glaze: While fritters are baking, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth and free of lumps.
- Cool and glaze: Remove the fritters from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes. Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters to add a sweet finishing touch.
- Serve: Enjoy the fritters warm or at room temperature for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For crispier edges, lightly brush the tops of the fritters with melted butter before baking.
- Enhance the flavor by adding chopped pecans or a pinch of apple pie spice to the batter.
- These fritters are best enjoyed fresh on the same day but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
