Description

A flavorful and quick Beef Lo Mein recipe featuring tender flank steak, fresh vegetables, and a savory homemade sauce, all stir-fried together with lo mein noodles for a delicious Asian-inspired meal perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Marinade

  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced

Other Ingredients

  • 8 oz lo mein noodles (or spaghetti)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers (any color)
  • 1/2 cup snow peas (optional)
  • 3 green onions, sliced for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a medium bowl, combine 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and 1 teaspoon sesame oil. Add the thinly sliced flank steak and toss to coat evenly. Let it marinate for 15 minutes to tenderize the beef and infuse it with flavor.
  2. Cook the Noodles: Prepare the lo mein noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain the noodles well and set them aside to be added later.
  3. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, 2 tablespoons oyster sauce, minced garlic, and minced ginger until smooth and well combined.
  4. Stir-Fry the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2 to 3 minutes until the beef is browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.
  5. Cook the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. Add shredded carrots, broccoli florets, sliced bell peppers, and snow peas (if using). Stir-fry the vegetables for 3 to 4 minutes until they are tender-crisp.
  6. Combine Everything: Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Add the drained noodles and pour the prepared sauce over the top. Toss everything together and cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes on medium heat, ensuring the noodles and beef are well coated with the sauce and heated through.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions. Serve the beef lo mein hot for a satisfying meal.

Notes

  • For best results, slice the flank steak thinly against the grain to ensure tender beef.
  • If lo mein noodles are unavailable, spaghetti can be used as a substitute.
  • Snow peas are optional but add a nice crunch and color contrast.
  • Adjust the soy sauce amount in the sauce according to your preferred saltiness.
  • If you prefer a spicier dish, a dash of red pepper flakes or chili garlic sauce can be added to the sauce.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
