Ingredients
Scale
For the meatballs:
- 1 pound ground beef
- ¼ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or 1 teaspoon dried parsley
For the mushroom sauce:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 8 oz mushrooms (sliced)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1½ cups beef broth
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- For the meatballs: In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, garlic, onion powder, salt, pepper, and parsley until just combined. Form into 1½-inch meatballs.
- For the mushroom sauce: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and lightly coat with oil. Brown the meatballs on all sides, about 6–8 minutes total. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and cook until browned and tender, about 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Sprinkle in the flour and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
- Slowly whisk in the beef broth, scraping up any bits from the pan. Add the heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3–4 minutes.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet and simmer for 5–7 more minutes, or until cooked through. Serve warm.
Notes
- These meatballs pair well with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
