Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix-Ins:

  • 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  4. Add mix-ins: Stir in the oats, chocolate chips, and nuts if using.
  5. Bake: Scoop heaping tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the centers are set.
  6. Cool and enjoy: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
