Description

A hearty and flavorful one-pan dish combining tender cabbage and savory ground beef with a blend of spices and tomatoes. Perfect for a quick and satisfying meal ready in just 35 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 small cabbage, chopped
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (15 oz)
  • 1 cup onions, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

Spices and Seasoning

  • 1 tablespoon bouillon powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ground Beef: Place the ground beef in a large pan over medium heat. Break up the meat with a spoon and cook until it is fully browned and no longer pink.
  2. Sauté Onions and Garlic: Push the cooked beef to one side of the pan. Add the chopped onions and minced garlic to the empty side. Sauté them together until the onions are softened and the garlic becomes fragrant.
  3. Add Tomatoes and Spices: Stir in the diced tomatoes along with bouillon powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, and salt to taste. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer gently for about 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
  4. Cook the Cabbage: Add the chopped cabbage to the pan, stirring well to incorporate it with the beef and tomato mixture. Cover the pan and cook until the cabbage is tender, stirring occasionally. If the mixture becomes too dry, add a little broth or water as needed to prevent sticking.
  5. Adjust Seasoning: Taste the dish and adjust the salt if needed. Serve the cabbage and ground beef hot, enjoying the rich and aromatic flavors.

Notes

  • If you prefer a spicier dish, increase the cayenne pepper slightly.
  • Adding a splash of beef broth can enhance the depth of flavor while cooking the cabbage.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated on the stovetop.
  • For a lower fat version, use lean ground beef or substitute with ground turkey.
  • This dish pairs well with rice or crusty bread to soak up the flavorful sauce.
