Description

Cheese Puff Sliders are delightful mini sandwiches featuring airy French gougères as buns filled with seasoned ground beef or turkey patties topped with melted cheddar or Swiss cheese. These light yet flavorful sliders are perfect as party bites, game day snacks, or elegant appetizers. Easily customizable with optional toppings like mayonnaise, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, or caramelized onions, they provide a delicious fusion of American and French flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Puff Buns

  • 12 mini cheese puffs or gougères (homemade or store-bought)

Meat Patties

  • 1/2 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Toppings

  • 6 small cheddar or Swiss cheese slices (halved)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise or aioli (optional)
  • 6 lettuce leaves (torn to fit)
  • 6 cherry tomatoes (sliced)
  • Pickles or caramelized onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Cheese Puffs: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) if you need to warm store-bought cheese puffs. Carefully split each cheese puff in half horizontally to use as slider buns.
  2. Mix and Form Patties: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well to combine the seasonings evenly. Shape the mixture into 12 small, evenly sized patties roughly the diameter of the cheese puff bases.
  3. Cook the Patties: Heat a skillet over medium heat and place the patties in the pan. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until they are thoroughly cooked and browned. Near the end of cooking, place half a slice of cheese on each patty and cover the skillet briefly to allow the cheese to melt perfectly.
  4. Assemble the Sliders: Optionally, spread mayonnaise or aioli on the inside of each cheese puff half for added flavor and moisture. Begin assembling the sliders by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each puff, then add a cheesy patty, followed by a slice of cherry tomato and any optional toppings like pickles or caramelized onions.
  5. Serve Warm: Top each slider with the other half of the cheese puff and serve while warm to enjoy the full flavors and textures.

Notes

  • Gougères, savory French cheese puffs, create a light yet flavorful base making these sliders uniquely delicious.
  • These sliders are perfect for parties, game day snacks, or as fun appetizers for gatherings.
  • To make a vegetarian version, substitute the meat patties with plant-based alternatives.
  • Optional toppings such as pickles or caramelized onions add extra layers of flavor.
  • Mayonnaise or aioli can be omitted or replaced with a vegan spread to suit dietary preferences.
