- 1 cup buttermilk

- 1 cup hot water or hot coffee
For the Cream Cheese Filling:
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Prepare the chocolate cake: Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat sugars, eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Combine wet and dry ingredients, then mix in hot water or coffee.
- Make the cream cheese filling: Beat together cream cheese, sugar, egg, vanilla, and flour until smooth.
- Layer and bake: Pour half of the chocolate batter into the pan, add dollops of cream cheese mixture, swirl, then top with remaining batter. Bake for 40–45 minutes.
- Cool and serve: Let the cake cool before slicing and serving.
