  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Prepare the chocolate cake: Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat sugars, eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Combine wet and dry ingredients, then mix in hot water or coffee.
  3. Make the cream cheese filling: Beat together cream cheese, sugar, egg, vanilla, and flour until smooth.
  4. Layer and bake: Pour half of the chocolate batter into the pan, add dollops of cream cheese mixture, swirl, then top with remaining batter. Bake for 40–45 minutes.
