Description

These Christmas Ooey Gooey Butter Cookies are a festive and delicious treat perfect for the holiday season. With a soft, gooey center and a dusting of colorful sugar, these cookies are sure to be a hit at any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Cream Cheese Mixture:

  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

Additional Ingredients:

  • 1 (15.25 oz) box white cake mix
  • Red and green sanding sugar or sprinkles
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cream Cheese Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract if using, and mix until well combined.
  2. Add Cake Mix: Gradually add the cake mix and beat until a thick, sticky dough forms. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  3. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Form and Bake: Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Roll each ball in powdered sugar, then gently press the tops into red or green sanding sugar or sprinkles. Place them 2 inches apart on the baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are just set and the centers still look soft.
  5. Cool and Serve: Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
