Cream Cheese Mixture:
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
Additional Ingredients:
- 1 (15.25 oz) box white cake mix
- Red and green sanding sugar or sprinkles
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)
Instructions
- Prepare Cream Cheese Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract if using, and mix until well combined.
- Add Cake Mix: Gradually add the cake mix and beat until a thick, sticky dough forms. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Form and Bake: Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Roll each ball in powdered sugar, then gently press the tops into red or green sanding sugar or sprinkles. Place them 2 inches apart on the baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are just set and the centers still look soft.
- Cool and Serve: Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
