Description

These Cranberry Orange Sour Cream Scones are a delightful treat with a perfect balance of sweet and tangy flavors. The tender scones are studded with juicy cranberries and fragrant orange zest, making them a wonderful choice for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

Scale

    Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • Wet Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter (cut into small cubes)
  • 2/3 cup sour cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • For the glaze (optional):

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tablespoons orange juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and orange zest. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add cranberries: Stir in dried cranberries.
  4. Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix sour cream, egg, vanilla extract, and orange juice. Add to dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Shape and bake: Pat dough into a circle, cut into wedges, and transfer to baking sheet. Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden.
  6. Make glaze: Whisk powdered sugar and orange juice for glaze. Drizzle over scones.

Notes

  • You can use fresh or frozen cranberries instead of dried, adjusting sugar slightly. Scones can be frozen before or after baking.
