Description

These beer cheese pretzels are the ultimate savory snack, perfect for game day or a cozy night in. Soft homemade pretzels are baked to golden perfection and served with a rich beer cheese sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Pretzels:

  • 10 cups water
  • 2/3 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg yolk beaten with 1 tablespoon water
  • Coarse sea salt for sprinkling

Cheese Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beer (lager or ale)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Add flour, salt, and melted butter, knead, and let rise.
  2. Pretzels: Shape dough, boil in water and baking soda, then bake until golden brown.
  3. Cheese Sauce: Melt butter, whisk in flour, add beer and milk, then stir in cheddar and spices until smooth.
  4. Serve pretzels warm with cheese sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • You can make the dough a day ahead and refrigerate for a slower rise.
  • For a stronger beer flavor, use a darker ale.
  • Pretzels are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in a warm oven.
