Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • zest of 1 large orange
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter (cut into cubes)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange zest

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare the dough: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients and cut in the butter. In a separate bowl, whisk the wet ingredients and combine with the dry ingredients.
  2. Shape and bake: Pat the dough into a circle, cut into wedges, and bake for 15–18 minutes until golden.
  3. Make the glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, orange juice, and zest to make the glaze.
  4. Finish: Drizzle the glaze over the warm scones before serving.
