Description

Heavenly Baked Chicken Alfredo Calzones are stuffed with creamy Alfredo sauce, tender shredded chicken, and gooey mozzarella, all wrapped in golden, flaky pizza dough. These cheesy, comforting pockets are perfect for dinner, meal prep, or feeding a crowd. With rich flavor and crisp edges, they’re everything you love about Alfredo pasta—wrapped up and baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

Calzone Dough

  • 1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)

Filling

  • 1½ cups cooked shredded chicken
  • ¾ cup Alfredo sauce (homemade or jarred)
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Finishing

  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Optional: chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Mix Filling Ingredients: In a bowl, combine the shredded chicken, Alfredo sauce, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, shredded mozzarella, Parmesan, salt, and pepper. Stir thoroughly until the mixture is evenly combined and creamy.
  3. Shape Dough: On a floured surface, divide the pizza dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into an oval or circle approximately 6 inches in diameter to form the calzone base.
  4. Fill and Seal Calzones: Spoon the chicken and cheese mixture onto one half of each dough piece, leaving a clear border around the edges. Fold the dough over to cover the filling, then press the edges firmly to seal. Crimp the edges with a fork to ensure they stay sealed during baking.
  5. Apply Egg Wash and Vent: Place the sealed calzones on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg to get a shiny golden crust. Cut a small slit in the top of each calzone to allow steam to escape while baking.
  6. Bake: Bake the calzones in the preheated oven for 18–22 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  7. Cool and Garnish: Let the calzones cool slightly after baking. Optionally, garnish with chopped parsley before serving to add freshness and color.

Notes

  • You can add spinach or cooked mushrooms to the filling for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • Calzones can be frozen before baking; simply thaw slightly and bake from cold, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
  • Serve with warm marinara sauce or extra Alfredo sauce for dipping to enhance the flavor experience.
