Ingredients
Scale
Beef Patties
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Bread & Cheese
- 6 slices rye bread
- 6 slices cheddar cheese
- 6 slices provolone cheese
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
Secret Sauce
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons chopped bacon pieces
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon relish
Instructions
- Prepare the Patties: Form the ground beef into 3 flattened patties. Season evenly with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to infuse flavor throughout.
- Cook the Patties: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties until they are fully cooked through and nicely browned on the outside. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- Make the Secret Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, chopped bacon pieces, ketchup, sugar, and relish. Stir well to create a tangy, flavorful sauce.
- Toast the Bread: Butter one side of each slice of rye bread with softened unsalted butter. Place the buttered side down on the hot skillet to begin toasting.
- Assemble: On each slice of bread in the skillet, layer 2 slices of provolone cheese, then a beef patty, followed by 2 slices of cheddar cheese. Spread secret sauce on another slice of bread and place it on top of each sandwich, buttered side up.
- Grill: Cook the sandwiches until the bottom bread slice is toasted golden brown and the cheese starts melting. Carefully flip each sandwich and toast the other side until golden and the cheese is fully melted.
- Serve: Remove the patty melts from the skillet and serve immediately while warm, enjoying the perfect combination of savory beef, melted cheeses, and creamy secret sauce.
Notes
- For a crispier sandwich, press down on the sandwiches gently with a spatula while cooking.
- Feel free to use any rye or your preferred sandwich bread.
- You can substitute the bacon pieces with cooked diced pancetta or omit for a vegetarian variation, adjusting the sauce accordingly.
- To make it easier to flip, cook on a griddle or use a sandwich press if available.
- Adjust seasoning of the patties to your taste preference.
