Scale
Burger Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a leaner option)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Toppings and Sauce
- 4 burger buns
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce (pizza sauce can also be used)
- 4 slices fresh mozzarella cheese (or shredded mozzarella)
- Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
- Olive oil (for grilling)
Instructions
- Preheat grill or grill pan: Preheat your grill or stovetop grill pan over medium-high heat and lightly grease with olive oil to prepare for cooking the patties and toasting the buns.
- Mix and form patties: In a bowl, combine the ground beef, Parmesan cheese, dried oregano, dried basil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly and then shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
- Grill the patties: Place the patties on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for well-done burgers, or to your preferred doneness level.
- Add sauce and cheese: In the last minute of grilling, spoon about 1 tablespoon of marinara sauce onto each patty and top with a slice of mozzarella cheese. Close the grill lid briefly to allow the cheese to melt.
- Toast buns: While the patties cook, toast the burger buns either on the grill or in a toaster until they are golden brown and slightly crisp.
- Assemble burgers: Once cooked, place each patty on a toasted bun. Add extra marinara sauce, fresh basil leaves, or more mozzarella cheese on top, if desired.
- Serve and enjoy: Serve the pizza-flavored burgers hot for the best flavor experience.
Notes
- Ground turkey can be used as a leaner alternative to beef for a lower-fat burger.
- Adjust the amount of marinara sauce and cheese according to your preference for sauciness and cheesiness.
- For extra heat, consider adding red pepper flakes to the burger mix or as a topping.
- Make sure the internal temperature of beef burgers reaches 160°F to ensure food safety.
- Fresh basil leaves add a nice aromatic garnish and authentic Italian flavor but can be omitted if unavailable.
