Description

This Savory Turkey and Cranberry Crescent Ring is a delicious and festive recipe perfect for holiday gatherings or any cozy meal. Flaky crescent rolls are filled with a creamy chive and onion cream cheese spread, Dijon mustard, fresh herbs, shredded Gruyere cheese, thinly sliced turkey, and tangy whole berry cranberry sauce. Baked to golden perfection and topped with a buttery, garlicky poppy seed mixture, this impressive ring is both savory and slightly sweet, making it an irresistible appetizer or main dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Crescent Ring

  • 1 tube crescent rolls
  • 4 oz chive and onion cream cheese, softened
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 3 tsp finely chopped fresh rosemary or thyme, divided
  • 2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese, divided
  • 1 lb thinly sliced turkey (leftover or deli turkey)
  • 1 (14 oz) can whole berry cranberry sauce

Topping

  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp poppy seeds
  • 1/2 tsp granulated garlic
  • 1/4 tsp salt (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare Crescent Rolls: Separate the crescent roll dough and arrange the pieces in a large circle on the prepared baking sheet. Position them so that the widest portions are on the inside with the edges overlapping slightly to form a ring shape.
  3. Prepare Filling: In a small bowl, whisk together softened chive and onion cream cheese, Dijon mustard, and 1 teaspoon of freshly chopped rosemary or thyme. Spread this mixture evenly over the widest portion of the crescent rolls arranged on the baking sheet. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded Gruyere cheese over the cream cheese mixture.
  4. Add Turkey and Cranberry: Layer the thinly sliced turkey evenly on top of the cheese. Spread half of the whole berry cranberry sauce over the turkey slices. Finally, sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded Gruyere cheese over the cranberry sauce layer.
  5. Form the Ring: Carefully bring the narrow end of each crescent dough piece over the filling towards the center and tuck it underneath the ring, securing the crescent dough around the filling and completing the ring shape.
  6. Add Toppings and Bake: In a small bowl, mix together melted butter, poppy seeds, granulated garlic, and salt. Brush this flavorful mixture generously over the top and sides of the crescent dough ring. Bake the ring in the preheated oven for 22-24 minutes until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Allow the baked ring to rest on the pan for 5 minutes after removing from the oven. Sprinkle the reserved 1 1/2 teaspoons of rosemary or thyme over the top for fragrance and garnish. Slice the ring into portions and serve warm with the remaining cranberry sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • You can use fresh leftover turkey after a holiday meal or quality deli turkey for convenience.
  • If fresh rosemary or thyme is unavailable, substitute with 1 teaspoon dried herbs for a similar flavor.
  • The crescent roll dough serves as a flaky and buttery crust, so ensure it does not overbake to keep the ring tender.
  • Feel free to swap Gruyere cheese with Swiss or mozzarella if desired.
  • This ring can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated before baking; just add a couple of extra minutes to baking time if baking from chilled.
