Ingredients
Scale
Strawberries
- 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Mascarpone Cream
- 8 ounces mascarpone cheese, softened
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/3 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Other
- 24 to 30 ladyfinger cookies (savoiardi)
- 1/2 cup orange juice or strawberry syrup for dipping
- Additional sliced strawberries and mint for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Macerate the Strawberries: In a medium bowl, toss the sliced strawberries with granulated sugar and lemon juice. Let them sit for 15 to 20 minutes until juicy and slightly softened, enhancing their natural sweetness.
- Prepare the Mascarpone Mixture: In another bowl, beat the mascarpone cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and creamy. In a separate chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream to stiff peaks, then gently fold it into the mascarpone mixture, maintaining the fluffy texture.
- Assemble the Tiramisu Layers: Briefly dip each ladyfinger into the orange juice or strawberry syrup—avoid soaking to prevent sogginess. Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers at the bottom of an 8×8-inch dish.
- Layer the Cream and Strawberries: Spread half of the mascarpone cream over the ladyfingers, then spoon half of the macerated strawberries evenly on top.
- Repeat the Layers: Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture and the rest of the strawberries, smoothing out the top layer.
- Chill and Serve: Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow flavors to meld together. Just before serving, garnish with extra sliced strawberries and fresh mint leaves if desired.
Notes
- You can substitute strawberry jam thinned with water or liqueur for the dipping syrup for extra flavor.
- For an adult twist, add a splash of strawberry liqueur or limoncello to the dipping liquid.
- This dessert is best made ahead to let the flavors fully develop and the dessert to set properly.
