Description

Taco Tortilla Roll Ups are flavorful and easy-to-make appetizers that combine a creamy blend of cheeses, seasoned chicken, and fresh ingredients wrapped in soft flour tortillas. Perfect for parties or snacks, these roll ups are chilled to meld flavors and served bite-sized for convenience.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 227 g cream cheese, softened
  • 113 g sour cream
  • 170 g cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning
  • 80 ml salsa (taco or picante sauce)
  • 1-2 jalapenos, seeded and finely diced
  • 15 g cilantro, finely chopped
  • 170 g cooked chicken, shredded

Wrap

  • 6 flour tortillas, 20 cm (8 inch) diameter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, thoroughly mix together the softened cream cheese, sour cream, taco seasoning, salsa, jalapenos, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded cooked chicken, and chopped cilantro until the mixture is homogeneous and well combined.
  2. Spread filling on tortilla: Lay one flour tortilla flat on a clean surface or plate. Spread approximately 30 to 45 ml (2 to 3 tablespoons) of the prepared filling evenly over the entire surface of the tortilla, ensuring full coverage.
  3. Roll the tortilla: Carefully roll the tortilla tightly into a cylinder shape to encase the filling. Place the rolled tortilla on a plate and repeat the process with the remaining tortillas and filling.
  4. Chill the rolls: Refrigerate the rolled tortillas for 2 hours. This chilling step allows the filling to firm up and the flavors to meld together for the best taste and easier slicing.
  5. Slice into bite-sized pieces: Remove the chilled roll-ups from the refrigerator. Slice off the ends to remove any uneven edges, then cut each roll into bite-sized pieces, ideal for serving as appetizers or snacks.
  6. Serve and garnish: Arrange the tortilla roll-up slices neatly on a serving platter. Garnish with additional chopped cilantro if desired to add freshness and visual appeal before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust the number of jalapenos to control the spice level according to your preference.
  • You can substitute cooked chicken with turkey or omit for a vegetarian version, adding more cheese and veggies.
  • Make the roll ups a day in advance and keep refrigerated for easy entertaining.
  • For added texture, include finely diced bell peppers or onions in the filling.
  • Use whole wheat or gluten-free tortillas if needed to accommodate dietary restrictions.
